Sheppard Elementary proudly offers a full-day Pre-K program to help four-year-olds learn, grow, and prepare for kindergarten in a nurturing environment. Children must be four years old on or before September 1 and meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

• Limited English proficiency
• Eligible for the National School Lunch Program
• Child of an active-duty United States military member
• Child of a military member injured or killed in service
• Currently or previously in foster care through Texas DFPS

Per district policy FDB (LOCAL), all students will attend the schools they reside in, unless granted permission to transfer based on these criteria: 

• Child of District Employee
• Child of Parent Stationed at Sheppard AFB on Active Military Orders
• Child of Peace Officer in Accordance with State Law
• IB Student (Legacy HS Only)
• Sibling of a Centralized Program Student
• Current 4th Grader Affected by Attendance Zone Change (West Foundation, Fowler)

Please note: If your child is part of a centralized special education program, you do not need to complete a transfer request form to remain in the program. If you have any questions regarding centralized programs, please call the special education department at 940-235-1019.

The District Transfer Committee follows the guidelines set in FDB (LOCAL).  This information can be found on the WFISD website. Please complete the form below to allow the District Transfer Committee the ability to make a decision. No transfers are guaranteed. Available space and staffing may be a defining issue when granting or denying a transfer. 

Notice: A person who knowingly falsifies information to establish residency for a student in a public school shall be liable to the public school if the student is enrolled on the basis of false information. The Texas Penal Code 37.10 (c) (3) states that falsification of enrollment documents is a Class C misdemeanor and a school district may enforce civil penalties for this offense. See Texas Penal Code 37.10 and Texas Education Code 25.001.

• Gifted & Talented
  • Kindergarten through second grade students receive Gifted and Talented curriculum instruction within their homeroom classrooms. Third through fifth grade students travel weekly to the Carrigan campus, where they collaborate with other Wichita Falls ISD students and participate in Gifted and Talented curriculum alongside their peers.

  • Sheppard Elementary has a Special Education teacher who provides both resource and inclusion support services. Wichita Falls ISD also offers centralized Special Education programs at other campuses throughout the district. Each Wichita Falls ISD campus is required to provide at least one professional development session for all campus staff focused on supporting military-connected students. In addition, each campus-based military liaison must complete an additional professional development session on supporting military-connected students and families in order to maintain their role.

The Social & Emotional Services Department in Wichita Falls ISD provides additional training opportunities for counselors focused on the unique needs of military-connected students. These trainings also equip counselors with effective strategies and techniques to better support military children and their families.

A majority of our campuses participate in the Student 2 Student program, which helps welcome and support new students as they transition to their campus by connecting them with a peer mentor and lunch buddy. Additionally, Sheppard Elementary hosts the “Braveheart Club,” a specialized peer support group designed specifically for students with military parents who are deployed or frequently serving on temporary duty (TDY).

Sheppard Elementary proudly supports and honors military-connected students, families, and veterans through a variety of campus traditions and events throughout the school year. As a campus with strong ties to the military community, Sheppard Elementary hosts Veterans Day assemblies and participates in Purple Up Day, where students and staff wear purple to show support for military-connected students.

One of the campus’s signature events is the annual Purple Up Picnic, one of the most highly attended family engagement events of the year. The picnic celebrates military-connected students and families through games, activities, snacks, and community resource vendors who help support and sponsor the event. The event provides an opportunity for military families, staff, and community partners to connect and celebrate the important role military families play within the school community.

In addition, Sheppard Elementary proudly serves as the lone choir for the citywide Veterans Day Ceremony, where veterans from across the community gather to be recognized and honored for their service.

The Military and Family Life Counseling Program provides free, confidential, non-medical counseling to service members, their families, and survivors on or near installations. Trained to work with the military community, military and family life counselors deliver valuable counseling services, briefings, and presentations to the military community. Counselors help service members and their families navigate issues such as improving relationships at home and work, stress management, adjustment difficulties, parenting, and grief or loss. Adult, child, and youth behavioral MFLCs are assigned to units, schools, child development centers, and other locations worldwide. Wichita Falls ISD has formed a team consisting of faculty, key spouses, Sheppard AFB staff, and community members who meet monthly and help the district better understand how they can support military-connected students and their families.

Behavioral Health & Counseling Services

Military-connected students experiencing stress, anxiety, grief, family separation, adjustment challenges, or other social-emotional concerns may be referred to local behavioral health providers for additional support.

Community counseling resources may include:

Referral Process

Students and families seeking counseling or behavioral health services may:

1. Contact the Campus-Based Military Liaison.
2. Speak with a school counselor, administrator, or social worker.
3. Request assistance from the Military & Family Life Counseling Program (MFLC).
4. Contact Sheppard Air Force Base support services directly.
5. Reach out to community providers for eligibility and appointment information.

When appropriate, campus staff can assist families in identifying available resources, providing contact information, and connecting families with community organizations that best meet their needs.
